Forest Service bans overnight camping in area near Sumpter

The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest has banned overnight camping on about 240 acres in the Huckleberry Creek area about 5 miles south of Sumpter due to what forest officials described in a press release as “ongoing resource damage… the result of long-term occupancy of the area.”

A forest order prohibits overnight camping in the area along Forest Road 1090 until July 24, 2021, unless rescinded earlier.
