Investigators are still trying to determine who started a fire that has burned 361 acres of rangeland near Huntington.
The Lime Hill 2 fire was reported about 3 p.m. Sunday about 4 1/2 miles northwest of Huntington, and west of Interstate 84.
Officials ruled out lightning or other natural ignition sources, but they are still investigating who started the fire, and how, said Al Crouch, a spokesman for the BLM’s Vale District.
The demolition of the abandoned lime quarry along Interstate 84 was not the source, Crouch said.
He said several people reported the fire, which was visible for several miles along the freeway.
Nine engines were assigned to the fire Sunday, along with three 20-person crews, one bulldozer and two helicopters.
Firefighters stopped the fire’s forward progress on Sunday, and as of this morning the fire was 70 percent contained, Crouch said.
The fire burned mostly on private land, with a small area of public land managed by the BLM. No structures were damaged.
