Baker teams both place seventh

Baker’s boys and girls tennis teams each placed seventh Saturday at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state tennis tournament at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
Zach Schwin, Baker’s No. 1 boys singles, lost the consolation final 6-1, 6-2 to Marist Catholic’s Andrew Hyslop.
Schwin, seeded fourth, lost his opener 6-2, 6-4 to Valley Catholic’s Miguel Rodriguez.
In consolation play, Schwin defeated Lebraun Albert of Weston-McEwen 8-1, and Luke Villano of Marist Catholic 9-7 to reach the final.
In other boys singles play, Shane Cunningham lost 6-0, 6-0 to third seed Jackson Whitaker of Marist Catholic. Cunningham then lost 9-7 to Nate Weber of Sisters in consolation play.
In boys doubles, Baker’s No. 1 team of Isaac Nemec and Luke Barnes won their opener 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 over Antony Giron and Estaban Gomez of Madras.
The Baker duo then lost 6-4, 6-0 to fourth seed Shilo Day and Tod To of Oregon Episcopal in the quarterfinals.
In girls doubles, Baker’s No. 1 team of Kaylee Dalke and Emma Finley won their first match 7-6, 6-4 over Ava Eklund and Whitney Kouth of Marist Catholic.
Dalke and Finley then lost 6-3, 6-4 to Layton Rosenfeld and Ellie Nicholson of Catlin Gabel in the quarterfinals.
In girls singles, Hannah Johnson and Gabbie Trebilcock each dropped a pair of matches.
Johnson lost 6-1, 6-0 to Cascade’s Jessica Wiebenga, then fell 8-2 to Junction City’s Theresa Braun in consolation.
Trebilcock lost her opener to No. 1 seed Courtlyn Lam of Klamath Union 6-1, 6-0. Trebilcock then lost 8-2 to Savannah Moe of Sherman in consolation play.
