Baker girls claim district title, boys second as Bulldogs send 16 to state

Baker’s girls track and field team edged La Grande for the Greater Oregon League district championship Saturday at La Grande.
Baker finished with 82.5 points to edge the Tigers by 3.5 points.
The Baker boys placed second in the district team standings, trailing La Grande 152-64.
Eight Baker girls qualified for the Class 4A state tournament in seven events.
The Bulldogs earned four district titles.
Emma Baeth was a triple winner. Baeth won the 400, 800 and anchored the winning 4×400 relay. Other members of the relay were Sydney Younger, Jocelynn Hellberg and Sydney Keller.
Brittanie Conant was district champion in the triple jump.
Advancing to state as district runnersup were Younger in the 400 and long jump, Rebby Daniels in the high jump, and Baker’s 4×100 relay team of Hailey Zikmund, Hellberg, Conant and Jayme Ramos.
Boys state qualifiers
Eight Bulldogs advanced to state in six events.
Kale Cassidy was Baker’s lone district champion, winning the 1,500.
Cassidy also was district runnerup in the 3,000 and anchored the second-place 4×400 relay. Other relay members were Kaden Myer, John Niehaus and Jamisun Rigueiro.
Seth Rushton placed second in the pole vault, and Riley Flanagan second in the triple jump.
Myer, Flanagan, Brylan Robb and Caden Spencer were members of the runnerup 4×100 relay.
The Class 4A state meets will be Friday and Saturday at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham.
