A 16-foot “tender” boat has been donated to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for the Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park.

Scott Green, park ranger, said the tender, when floating in the dredge pond, was used to effect repairs and clean up of the dredge.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on Sunday trapped, and later released, one of the two wolves that biologists believe killed 24 lambs on one Baker County ranch last month and one calf on another nearby ranch.

After spending much of the spring in a severely shrunken state, Baker County’s biggest reservoir is growing again.

Brownlee Reservoir, the Snake River impoundment that forms much of the county’s eastern boundary, has been more than 50 feet below full since late winter due to its key role in the flood control system for the Snake and Columbia rivers.

As of this morning the reservoir was about 46 feet below full.

Frank Gariglio, an engineer with Idaho Power Company, which owns and operates Brownlee Dam, said he expects the reservoir will continue to rise at the rate of 1 to 2 feet per day during May.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that oversees flood control, has given the company a target of 2,069 feet elevation — 8 feet below full — by May 31, Gariglio said.

He said the Corps of Engineers could require Idaho Power to revise that schedule, but he doesn’t expect that.
