Baker City, 1984-2019

Kristin Nicole Bagenski, 36, of Baker City, died April 6, 2019, at her home.

Her family will have a celebration of her life on May 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn Ave. Friends are asked to bring stories and memories for Kristin’s memorial album.

She was born on March 1, 1983, at Las Vegas.

Kristin is survived by her husband, Stan Bagenski; her children, Brennan and Ellie; her parents, Kellie and Marion Trone; her brothers, Jake Abbot and Aaron Trone of Baker City; her father, Joe Abbot; and many friends and family in Las Vegas.

Edna Gawith

Formerly of Haines, 1937-2019

Edna Gaye Gawith, 82, formerly of Haines, died March 28, 2019.

There will be a celebration of her life at a later date. Her final resting place will be the Haines Cemetery.

Edna was born on Jan. 1, 1937, at Mountain Home, Idaho, to Fayette M. Bach and Edna M. Bach. She was the youngest of five children until two years and two days later when Carol Bach arrived and took the coveted baby spot.

The Bach family made their home in Haines. Edna went to Haines Elementary School and graduated from Baker High School in 1955. During her senior year of high school she met Alvin Gawith, her soulmate. They dated for several months, marrying on Oct. 22, 1955. They made their home in Haines where they raised two children: a daughter, Ferrel, and a son, Chris. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary on Oct. 22, 2018.

Edna worked many jobs over the years. She truly cared about people, something that was proven time after time in her actions and deeds.

Edna enjoyed being outside. She spent time gardening, and picking huckleberries and mushrooms, or just going for long walks with Alvin. She spent many hours volunteering for different organizations. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion. She also loved to read — her one true love. Her second true love was the library.

Edna is survived by her husband, Alvin Gawith; her daughter, Ferrel Gawith; her son, Chris Gawith; her sister and best friend, Carol Anderson, and her husband, Andy, of Guide Rock, Nebraska; her grandsons, Bryce Hacker and his wife, Jennifer, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Michael Riley and his wife, Debi, of Baker City, and Joshua “Josh” Gawith and his wife, Nicole, of Kennewick, Washington; her great-grandchildren, Shailynn, Reagan and Brennen Hacker, Tyler and Taya Riley, and Caiden and Colton Gawith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her father, Fayette M. Bach and her mother, Edna M. Bach; her brothers, William “Bill” Bach, and Eugene “Gene” Bach; and her sisters, Catherine Hoopii and Frances Shurtleff.
