Those woolly caterpillars must be embarrassed right about now.

The supposed harbingers of winter weather predicted plenty of cold and snow back in the fall.

The caterpillars have had a bad year. The winter of 1993-94 has been neither cold nor snowy, especially when compared with a year ago.

Two teenagers who were living in a Baker City drug and alcohol treatment center are among the 11 Oregonians who have contracted salmonella linked to the nationwide recall of peanut products.

Officials from the Oregon Health Division did not release the names of the people infected.

The teenagers, one boy and one girl, were living at the Elkhorn Adolescent Treatment Center in late 2008 when they were diagnosed with salmonella.

It was a record-setting weekend in Baker City.

And it had nothing to do with football.

Well, perhaps not nothing.

The warmest early February weather on record might have prompted people to partake in backyard football games before heading indoors to watch Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The temperature set daily records both Saturday and Sunday at the Baker City Airport.

Saturday’s high of 60 degrees easily broke the previous record for Feb. 3 of 53 degrees, set in 1995.

Sunday was only slightly cooler, with a high of 58. That broke the Feb. 4 record, also set in 1995, of 56 degrees.
