Buckaroos thump Baker, 82-48

Baker entered Tuesday’s nonleague boys basketball game with Class 5A Pendleton on a 10-game winning streak.

Baker had a 13-2 season record. One of those losses was to Pendleton in Baker’s season opener.

Pendleton completed the season sweep of the Bulldogs in the Baker gym, thumping the home team 82-48.

After taking a 20-15 lead after one quarter, Pendleton went on a 19-2 run to lead 48-23 at halftime.

Tyler Newsom scored 14 points in the second quarter.

It was more of the same in the second half as Baker couldn’t cut into the deficit.

Newsom and Dakota Sams each finished with 24 points to lead the Bucks.

Kaden Sand was the only Bulldog in double figures, finishing with 18. Zack Schwin added 8 points.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League play Friday when the Bulldogs host La Grande.

Pendleton beat La Grande 71-57 on Jan. 8.
