Bulldogs cruise to two wins; advance to second in ranks

Baker climbed into second place in the Class 4A girls basketball rankings Saturday after sweeping a pair of games during the weekend.
On Friday the Bulldogs (15-1 overall) routed Ontario 65-31 in a Greater Oregon League game at Ontario. Saturday, Baker defeated Class 5A Ridgeview 74-43 in a nonleague game at BHS.
Against Ontario, Baker pulled away from a 9-9 first-quarter tie to build 29-9 edge midway through the second quarter.
Rose Gwillim scored 18 of her 23 points in the first half as Baker led 37-14 at halftime.
Gwillim and Jayme Ramos combined for 13 points in Baker’s second-quarter run.
Ramos finished with 19 points, and Sydney Younger added 10.
Against Ridgeview, Isabella Nemec scored eight points in the first quarter, including a pair of three-point baskets, to help Baker to a 21-10 lead.
Gwillim and Younger each added five points.
Gwillim then scored 12 points in the second quarter, and Ramos six, as Baker forged a 44-19 halftime lead.
Gwillim finished with 28 points. Younger, Ramos and Nemec each finished with 13.
