The Baker City Public Works Department has a pair of reminders that bear repeating every snow season.
The first is that a city ordinance requires residents to clear snow and ice off their sidewalks within 24 hours after snowflakes stop falling.

County commissioners from nine counties will meet Jan. 4 at John Day to choose a Republican replacement for Oregon Sen. Ted Ferrioli.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the lower conference room of the Grant County Regional Airport in John Day, Baker County Clerk Cindy Carpenter stated in an email to the Herald. Deschutes County Commissioner Tammy Baney has been named the temporary chair for the meeting.
Commissioners from Baker, Deschutes, Jefferson, Lake, Wasco, Grant, Harney, Malheur and Wheeler counties will meet to cast their votes for three candidates, said Heidi Martin, executive assistant to the Baker County Board of Commissioners. Attendance may be in person or by telephone.
Candidates are Suzan Ellis Jones of Bridgeport, a rancher and chairwoman of the Baker County Republican Party; state Rep. Cliff Bentz of Ontario, whose district includes Baker County; and Dr. Eric Wattenburg, a Redmond physician.
