Late barrage of baskets lifts Baker past Emmett

Trailing by four points early in the fourth quarter, Baker scored the final 19 points of the game Tuesday on the way to a 52-37 nonleague boys basketball win over Emmett in the BHS gym.
Baker never led in the first half. The Bulldogs took their first lead, 27-26, with 4:05 left in the third quarter on a three-point basket from Kaden Sand.
The teams then traded leads until Emmett pulled ahead 34-33 entering the fourth quarter.
Emmett then increased its lead to 37-33 with the opening basket of the final period.
But those were the last points Emmett would get.
Caden Long then scored eight of his game-high 20 points.
Gabe Gambleton added five points and Sand, Riley Flanagan and Spencer Smith two each.
Baker fell behind 9-0 to start the first quarter.
However, the Bulldogs managed to stay close, hitting 5-of-6 free throws.
Long scored Baker’s first basket, a breakaway dunk, with 2:46 left in the quarter.
Emmett led 13-7 at the break.
Both teams picked up the scoring in the second quarter, which ended with Emmett holding a 24-20 halftime edge.
Baker’s next action is at the North Valley tournament at Grants Pass Dec. 27-29.
