Saturday night at the Baker High School Auditorium will see one of the biggest events of the year with the 1969 Baker County Junior Miss pageant. The evening will be highlighted with the crowning of the 1969 Baker Junior Miss and to help the evening along, the Baker Jaycee sponsored program will be conducted by nationally known magician and card artist Ernie “Country Cousin” Bryan of Portland.
Bryan, who is currently national president of the American Magician’s Association, was recently elected to the magician’s hall of fame in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Baker City residents may notice a stronger-than-usual concentration of chlorine in their city water for most of the next week.
An automatic chlorinator malfunctioned Wednesday night at the city reservoir, according to Jim Adamson, Baker City director of public works. As a result, the city is bypassing the chlorine contact chamber and adding extra chlorine to the water distributed into the city system.

Northeastern Oregon has world-class assets right at its feet, and it’s high time, a group of city officials say, that the region began sharing its scenery and topography with the ramblers of the world.
A trio of presenters — the City Planning Director Don Chance, Economic Developer Gene Stackle and retired teacher and hiking enthusiast Dick Hentze — told the Baker City Council Tuesday what the planned 870-mile Blue Mountain Heritage Trail could one day mean to the region.

The wildly fluctuating weather that started before Thanksgiving in Baker City persisted through the weekend, bringing more record-setting warmth.
A warm front that moved from south to north Saturday evening ushered in unusually mild air from California.
