Formerly of Richland, 1928-2018
John Weir, 90, a former longtime Richland resident, died May 15, 2018, at his home in Green Valley, Arizona.
His graveside service will be Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland. Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception afterward at the Eagle Valley Grange (located at the old Richland Elementary School, corner of Moody Road and Main Street.)

John Marshall was born on Feb. 11, 1928, at Baker to Virgil and Edith Pearl (Colburn) Weir. The first six years of his life, the family lived at Sparta.
He attended elementary school at Pleasant Ridge and Sunnyside School. His high school years were at Eagle Valley High School, where he graduated in 1946. John’s most memorable date in his life was June 8, 1949, when he married Donna Blank in Richland.
John and Donna made their home in Richland and raised their four children. During John’s life he worked for Pine Eagle Dairymen, Morrison Knudson on the Brownlee Dam and Pine Eagle Farmers Co-op when Dairymen changed to Farm Supply. John was a member of Eagle Valley Grange for more than 50 years and served as Grange master for many years.
John enjoyed camping and fishing. In 1999, he and Donna began wintering in Quartzite, Arizona. In 2010, they decided to live in Arizona full time and moved to Green Valley, Arizona.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna; his daughter, Judith Ann Grantz and her husband, Ron, of Arizona; his sons, Neil Weir of Idaho, and Jerry Weir and wife, Sue, of Idaho; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lela Shold, Velma Stewart, Mary Zagelow and Fern Marriot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Margaret Yoder, in 2004; his brothers, Virgil, Orville and Cecil; and his sisters, Marjorie Miller and Winifred Hoover.

Robert Larkin
John Day, 1931-2018
Robert Edward “Bob” Larkin, 86, of John Day, died May 28, 2018, at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City.
His memorial service will be Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in John Day. Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck reception at the John Day Elks Lodge immediately after the service. Following the reception, the interment, with military honors, will take place at 4 p.m. at the Dayville Cemetery.
Robert was born on Oct. 5, 1931, at Prairie City to James Richard and Myrtle (Boyer) Larkin. He graduated from John Day High School in 1950.
Following high school he drove truck for Welshes Blue Mountain Mills for a year, then joined the Navy Seabees for four years during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Returning home, he drove truck for Hudspeth Lumber Company, before becoming owner of the Richfield Oil Service Station and Oil Distributor of John Day and Burns from 1956 to 1996. He was a contract petroleum tanker distributor and owner of RV Storage from 1978 to 2008 when he ended his 52-year business career.
Larkin was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club past president and member of the Benevolent Order of Elks for 60 years, including trustee for four years.
He enjoyed dancing and attending jazz festivals, hunting and fishing and traveling, having gone to many places including Hawaii, Alaska and Scotland. He liked joining his family every year for the Dayville Fourth of July parade. He enjoyed a glass of wine most days and always said it was 5 o’clock some place.
Larkin is survived by his wife of 19 years, Isa Larkin, and Maggie (their dog) of John Day; his stepson Jim (Wendy) Wham of The Dalles and their son James; grandchildren, Colby Donnelly (Nicki) and their daughter, Lilly, of Corvallis, and Christopher Donnelly of Crooked River Ranch; his sister, Ruth Kelsey of Auburn, California; half-sister, Viola Jones of Auburn, California, and Nancy Jackson of Orangevale, California; his half-brothers, Jim (Ann) Larkin of Lakewood, Colorado, Barney Larkin of John Day, Larry Larkin of Prineville, and John (Dianne) Larkin of Lincoln City; his stepchildren, Steve Wilson (Leonor) of Palmdale, California, Sheila Wilson and Sherril (Cliff) Daniels of Oregon City; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma (Amis) Larkin of 37 years; his daughter, Lori Kay Larkin; his brothers, Richard Larkin and Gene Larkin; his sister, Frances; and his step-daughters, Cheril Aury and Donna Walters.

Raymond Berryhill
Baker City, 1937-2018
Raymond David Berryhill, 80, of Baker City, died June 15, 2018, at Settler’s Park Assisted Living Community in Baker City.
There will be a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel. Cliff Cole will officiate. Friends are invited to join the family for refreshments afterward at Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place St.
Ray was born on Dec. 29, 1937, at Fountain City, Tennessee, to Earnest and Margurite Berryhill. He graduated from high school at Merchantville, New Jersey, and later earned his bachelor’s degree in education from San Francisco State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Idaho.
After serving in the Army, Ray became a teacher and football coach for 35 years. His wonderful ability to work with youth impacted many young lives either in the classroom or on the football field. He chose to come out of retirement for one year to teach and coach football at Baker High School.
After retiring, Ray volunteered at the Compassion Center in Baker City. He also did local prison ministry. He touched many lives volunteering to people in need.
Ray and his wife, Joy, just celebrated 53 years of marriage. Ray and Joy had two children, who Ray was so very proud of, Jill Johnson of Baker City and Brock Berryhill and his wife, Jenny, of Scobey, Montana. Ray was also blessed with five grandchildren: Kaitlyn Johnson, Quinton Johnson, Ainsley Berryhill, Evelyn Berryhill, and Baylor Berryhill.
Family members expressed their appreciation to Ray’s in-home caregivers, the staff at Settler’s Park, and Heart ’N Home Hospice “for taking care of our amazing husband and father.”
