The Hodgen/Barley Brown Brewers, Baker’s summer baseball team, finished 2-3 at the annual Ashlee Hodgen Memorial tournament at Pendleton this weekend.

“When we pitched well, we won,” said Baker coach Al McCauley.

Baker opened its tournament Friday by losing 14-2 to Hodgen District of Pendleton.

Connor Lay took the loss on the mound.

Baker managed just four hits — singles by Sam McCauley, Spencer Smith, Warner Robertson and Spencer Shirtcliff.

Saturday, Baker split two games.

The Brewers defeated Mead 9-6 with McCauley getting the win on the mound.

McCauley, Robertson, Smith, Zander Arriaga and Jake Wright each had a pair of hits for the Brewers.

Baker then lost 14-4 to Redmond. Logan McCluskey was the losing pitcher.

Shirtcliff led the offense with two hits and two RBIs.

Sunday, the Brewers defeated Pasco 8-3.

Lay was the winning pitcher.

McCauley had a double, triple and an RBI. Robertson had two hits. Shirtcliff had two hits and an RBI. Lay added a triple and three RBIs.

In Sunday’s final game, Baker lost 7-6 to La Grande.

McCauley was the losing pitcher.

McCauley and Shirtcliff each had a double and two RBIs. Justin Miller added an RBI single.

Baker travels to the High Sierra Baseball Classic at Reno, Nevada, Thursday through Sunday.
