Record-setting Baker Middle School track athletes headed to state

CORVALLIS — Eleven members of the Baker Middle School track and field team will compete at the Oregon Middle School Meet of Champions Thursday at Corvallis.

Competing for Baker will be Emma Baeth in the 200, 400 and 800; Anna Belding in the 4×400 relay and 400; Jaydn Berry in the javelin; Makenzie Flanagan in the relay; Sydnee Pierce in the relay; Jozie Ramos in the relay; Gauge Bloomer in the 100 hurdles, shot, discus and relay; Jackson Chandler in the relay; Reece Hatfield in the 100, 200 and relay; Jesse Maldonado in the javelin, shot and discus; and Hayden Younger in the relay.

Several Baker athletes have set new school records this season.

Seventh-grader Reece Hatfield set the new record of 12.44 in the 100, breaking the old mark of 12.50 set in 2007 by Ben Frix. Hatfield also set a new long jump record of 16 feet, 7.5 inches, breaking Gabe Gambleton’s record of 16-1.5 in 2016.

Hatifled joined Jordan Mills, Giacomo Rigueiro and Jackson Chandler setting a new 4×400 relay mark of 4:16.51. That broke the old record of 4:26.5 set in 1976.

Gauge Bloomer set new records in the 100 hurdles and 800. His 100 hurdles mark of 15.25 breaks the old record of 15.56 set by Conner Yates in 2009. Bloomer’s record of 2:20.28 in the 800 breaks the old mark of 2:22.79 set in 2010 by Nate Baeth.

Anna Belding set a new record of 63.50 in the seventh-grade girls 400, breaking Janna Hackwith’s record of 67.16 set in 1990. Belding joins Jozie Ramos, Makenzie Flanagan and Sydnee Pierce with a new 4×400 relay mark of 4:34.97. That broke the old record of 4:49.62 set in 2000.

Emma Baeth set three new eighth-grade girls records in the 400, 800 and 1,500.

Her 400 mark of 63.04 breaks Corey Trindle’s record of 66.57 set in 1987. Her 800 record of 2:32.20 breaks Trindle’s 1987 mark of 2:35.87, and her 1,500 record of 5:25.14 breaks Trindle’s 1987 mark of 5:25.55.
