Bulldogs on to state tourney

Baker’s boys and girls golf teams qualified for next week’s state tournaments with their performances at the district tourneys on separate courses on Monday and Tuesday.
The boys, led by district medalist Caden Long, finished second in the team standings at Wine Valley Country Club in Walla Walla, Washington.
Baker’s girls team placed third, and Paige Pearce finished fifth in the individual standings at Pendleton Country Club.
Pearce shot a personal best round of 85 in Tuesday’s final round to help lift the Bulldogs to third place. Pearce had three birdies on Tuesday as she finished 17 shots ahead of her first-round score on Monday, Boys coach Mike Long said.
“She was pretty excited,” he said.
In the boys district tournament, Caden Long fired rounds of 80 and 75 to finish five shots ahead of La Grande’s Derek Williams in the individual standings.
La Grande won the team title.

The boys Class 4A state tourney is set for May 14-15 at Eagle Crest near Redmond.
The girls tournament is at Quail Valley near Banks.
