Baker’s softball team earned its first two wins of the season Tuesday, defeating Burns 11-1 and 20-5 in a nonleague doubleheader at the Baker Sports Complex.

The sweep improves Baker’s season record to 2-12.

“Pitching and hitting was great today,” said Baker coach Sonny Gulick.

“We did a nice job pushing runs across today. It was nice to see a few things go our way today. We took advantage of the opportunities we were given.”

In the opener, Hollie Minor and Michaela Watkins each had three hits and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Gussie Cook added a double and three RBIs.

Baker took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Rose Gwillim.

The Bulldogs then added six runs in the second inning.

An RBI single by Minor, and a sacrifice fly by Cook were the key blows.

Cook later added a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Watkins then ended the game by 10-run rule with a run-scoring single.

Baker opened the second game with four runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the inning without a hit. Baker used five walks and two hit batters to score.

The Bulldogs then exploded for 10 runs in the second inning.

Cook did the major damage, driving in six runs in the inning with a grand slam home run and a two-run double.

Kaylan Mosser added an RBI double.

Baker added six more runs in the third and fourth innings.

Gwillim led the way with a three-run homer.

Minor was the winning pitcher.

Baker travels to Ontario Friday for a Greater Oregon League doubleheader.
