“Our new office at 1780 Main St. is coming along pretty well and we hope to move in today,” stated Barry Stern, local auditor for Paramount Pictures, Friday.
Stern said that 23 Paramount men, 20 of whom are lead carpenters, are in the Baker area and construction of the movie site of “Paint Your Wagon” was proceeding without problems.

Ice-anglers at Phillips Reservoir this winter often caught as many trash fish as they did trout, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife doesn’t have the estimated $500,000 to get rid of the unwanted intruders.
Duane West, a fish biologist at the ODFW office in La Grande, said he knows non-game species such as squawfish and suckers have been thick at the popular reservoir southwest of Baker City.

A few short sections of the Burnt River Canyon Road in southern Baker County lived up to the “river” part of its name a bit too literally this week.
The snowmelt-swollen river flowed over the road in three places, Baker County Roadmaster Jeff Smith said Thursday morning.
The water wasn’t deep enough to close the road, though.
Smith said a Road Department crew set up brightly colored tape to show drivers where the road’s edge is. The three sites with high water are downstream from Dark Canyon, which is about four miles east of Bridgeport.
