Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Alexander, Baker, are the new owners of the Western Motel, a 14-unit structure located at 3055 10th St.

Former owners Dave and Esther Block have moved to 2545 College St., the former residence of the Alexanders, as part of the business transaction. Mr. and Mrs. Block, who moved here March 17, 1962, from Jerome, Idaho, wished the new owners the same success they have had.

The four Baker County school districts are moving ahead with plans to provide themselves services currently obtained from the county Education Service District.

Baker City attorney J. David Coughlin, who is representing the districts, discussed the situation at an ESD board meeting Thursday night.

The BLM wants to increase admission fees during part of the year at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.

The fee hike, which could take effect as soon as Oct. 1, would be the Center’s first since 2002, Center Manager Sarah LeCompte said.

The Interpretive Center opened May 23, 1992.

Misty Anderson is stepping into the spotlight herself with a walk down the runway as Mrs. Baker County in the Mrs. Oregon America competition later this month to bring attention to mental health issues.

This is the 33-year-old’s third pageant. Her first was as an Idaho representative in an international pageant for married women. Last year she represented Baker County for the first time in the Mrs. Oregon America contest. Another Baker City woman, Lori McNeil, also competed as the Eastern Oregon representative in the Mrs. Oregon America pageant.
