Baker saw its early season boys basketball record drop to 0-3 during the weekend after losing a pair of nonleague games at the Ambrose (Idaho) tournament.

On Friday, Baker fell 77-56 to Cole Valley Academy. Saturday, the Bulldogs lost 84-81 to Ambrose in overtime.

Against Cole Valley, Baker had one bad quarter, and that made the difference.

“We had a tough second quarter,” said Baker coach Brent Gyllenberg.

Tied at 16 after one period, Baker was outscored 25-14 in the second quarter.

“We showed some flashes of excellence, and some flashes of youth,” Gyllenberg said.

Caden Long led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Kaden Sand added 13.

Against Ambrose, Baker was just outmanned. The Bulldogs were down to seven players and had two of those foul out.

“It was a close game for four quarters,” Gyllenberg said.

“The guys played tough with just seven players.”

Baker fell behind 22-14 after one quarter but rallied to take a 39-35 halftime lead.

Ambrose battled back to tie the game at 70-70 in regulation and outscored the Bulldogs 14-11 in overtime.

Five Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Gabe Gambleton’s 21. Cayn Osborn added 19, Sand 16, Long 12, and Riley Flanagan 11.

Baker hosts Stanfield Tuesday then travels to Junction City for a tournament Thursday through Saturday.
