November 13, 1967

The Baker Bulldogs’ hope for a semifinal berth was lost Friday evening in the last three and a half minutes of play when halfback Dan Christianson led a late game drive that resulted in a 14-14 tie and a semifinal berth for the Crusaders because of a net yardage of 402-276.

Baker’s Class 3A state football playoff game against Dallas Saturday will be the classic David versus Goliath.

Baker, ranked fourth in the final 3A poll, will play the role of David, the slayer of the dreaded monster. Dallas, ranked second, will perform in the role of the monster Goliath.

On Thursday night city officials invite people to help them dream about what the Baker City Municipal Airport is going to look like 10 years from now.

The way they’re going to do that — writing a new airport master plan, which the federal government requires of municipally owned airports every 10 years — isn’t exactly thrilling. But airport commission members and city staff want the public (especially airport neighbors) to help them dream a little.

The City and County have been passing their 911 contract back and forth like it was a shuttlecock in a badminton game.

After an hour-long discussion Wednesday, Baker County commissioners decided to revisit discussions about changes to the 911 dispatch contract with Baker City in a work session on Dec. 14.

The current contract in place stipulates that the County operate the 911 dispatch center. In turn, it receives 71 percent of its 911 budget from the City. That amount is based on the percentage of 911 calls that are from the city.
