A State Game Commission trash fish removal project on the Powder River was completed last week, Biologist Bob Sayre, La Grande, has advised.

The work started about two months ago on tributaries coming into the Powder River in Sumpter Valley and ended with chemical treatment there and in the river between Mason Dam and Thief Valley Reservoir.

The Baker Bulldogs completed their 1992 Greater Oregon League football regular season Friday with a 26-8 victory against Madras.

The victory, in Bulldog Memorial Stadium, clinched the GOL championship for the Bulldogs, their first since 1988. It also ran Baker’s season winning streak to 9-0, something no other Baker team has ever done.

The effort to bridge the gap between the two sections of Baker City’s riverside path continues, but construction probably won’t take place until 2010.

The city’s plan is to build the paved Leo Adler Memorial Parkway beside the Powder River between Washington Avenue and Madison Street.

The current Parkway consists of two parts, both built several years ago.

It was an election day to remember in Baker County.

And not just because of the results.

Tuesday was also the warmest Nov. 8 on record at the Baker City Airport, where the temperature peaked at 65 degrees.

That broke the previous daily record of 64, set in 1976.

It might not be the only record-breaker this week.

The unseasonably mild weather is forecast to continue through Friday, with mainly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s.
