The Baker High Student Council conducted a voluntary contribution campaign beginning with the Redmond ballgame and continued through Wednesday of this week for the Mike Springer Fund.
Springer, an Astoria football player, was injured at the Baker-Astoria game Sept. 8, with a broken back. The purpose of the campaign was to help pay the uninsured portions of medical expense.

GRANITE (AP) — A twin-engine airplane has crashed in a rugged section of Grant County, killing the four people aboard, authorities said.
Sheriff Fred Reusser said the Beechcraft Baron was en route from Medford to Baker City Monday when it disappeared from radar.

Whether for or against Ballot Measure 34, Baker School District voters are holding out hope for a narrow victory for their side.
In addition to two statewide ballot measures, district voters are considering whether to approve a $21 million bond measure that would fund a new middle school.
Supporters and opponents have waged a subdued campaign since ballots were mailed from the Baker County Clerk’s Office Oct. 19. The votes will be counted shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

HALFWAY — High school students can accomplish some pretty impressive things.
But it’s not often that they design, build and sell a three-bedroom/two-bathroom house.
That’s what high school students did over a six-year period at Pine-Eagle High School in Halfway.
The house, on a lot the school district owns, sold for $179,000 in September.
