Baker County Livestock Association members concluded their Saturday business meeting with unanimous election of Wayne Troy, Pleasant Valley rancher, as president for the 1968 year. He succeeds John Boyer, Haines who was cited during the evening banquet for outstanding effort during his year of office, and received a past president’s buckle from 1966 president Frank Kerby.

After months of preparation the Eagle Valley Rural Volunteer Fire Department is operational with one hurdle remaining — communications — the Baker County Court learned Wednesday.

Baker County Commissioners don’t hold out a lot of hope that a meeting of an interim legislative committee scheduled Thursday for Baker City will fill the $825,000 hole that will be shot into the county’s Road Department next year.
Still, they’re trotting out a host of local officials to tell the House Interim Committee on Rural Policy how the prospective loss of the federal county payments program next year is going to cause pain among Oregon’s rural county governments.

A Baker High School senior who is a fourth-generation beekeeper was recognized for his entrepreneurial skills during the 2016 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Friday night.
Jake Bobo, 17, the son of Carolyn and Keith Bobo of Baker City, was named a 2016 National Agricultural Proficiency Award winner in the specialty animal production category.
Bobo’s BHS classmate, Kourtney Lehman, competed in the public speaking event at the convention.
