Jacob Bart “Jake” Freeman, 22, of Baker City, died Aug. 22, 2017, in Baker City.

There will be a visitation from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pastor Ian Wolfe of the First Lutheran Church will officiate.

Jacob was born on Dec. 14, 1994, at Coos Bay to Heather Leah McCorkle and Seth J. Freeman. His future ambitions were to be a professional glass blower and a world traveler. He was an outdoor adventurer and a nature lover.

Jacobs’s magnificence goes beyond words and enters a world of never-ending love and enlightenment that few would be willing to venture to. Jacob spent most of his time with his friends, which were his family.

He was multitalented and an ambitious young man who filled his days with long boarding and creating ways to wow us with his extraordinary orbiting skills; he had the best designs and greatest ambition for glass blowing.

His creativity will never be matched. Jacob spent his time discovering the bounties of life and along the way set an example for us all to live this life uniquely, honestly and passionately. Jacob put himself out there for anyone in the world who needed a friend.

Jacob’s energy is eternal, surrounding us forever, family members said.

Lois Breckler

Former North Powder resident

Lois Lannette Umpleby Breckler, a former North Powder resident, died Aug. 19, 2017, at Lakewood, Washington.

A private family gathering is being planned for a later date.

Lois enrolled in seventh grade at North Powder School after the Umpleby family moved from the Junction City area of the Willamette Valley to North Powder. After graduating from high school, Lois enrolled at the University of Oregon where she earned a degree in Geriatric Recreation. She spent her life living and working on the western side of Oregon and Washington and retired at Lakewood, Washington, as a postal worker.

Betty Jane White

Former Baker City resident, 1928-2017

Betty Jane Mattes White, 88, of Hillsboro, a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 13, 2017.

Her service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at the Wilamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Betty was born on July 4, 1928, at Baker City to Benjamin Mattes and Mary Zimmerman. She was the first recorded Fourth of July baby to be born in Baker City.

Betty Jane dedicated her life to serving others. She was a nurse for more than 40 years. She loved being a nurse and especially loved her patients.

She cherished the time she was able to spend with her family. Family was very important to her. Betty Jane was truly a selfless, caring, and loving person who will be most dearly missed by her family and friends, family members said.

The family would like to dedicate a special thank you to the staff at Avamere (Arbor) and Seasons Hospice “for the special care and love they gave to our mom.”

Survivors include her children, Kristina Dack, Valory Ramona (Gregg) and Marvin L. Dack Jr.; her stepchildren, Sandra DeVoll (Kevin), Brian White, Bambi Young and Stacie Matthews (Chris); 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, William, Phillip Earl, and Alfred McMillian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane White; son, J. Bradley Dack; grandchildren, Billy Shawn Moncrief and Peter Joseph Dack; and her beloved sister, Ann Cassidy.
