Baker City has seen a significant increase in weed complaint cases this year.

Last year the police department handled 132 complaints for the entire season — May 1 through Nov. 1. There have already been 120 cases less than halfway into the weed season.

One of the reasons for this can be attributed to the weather Baker City has experienced this year.

Police Chief Wyn Lohner partially blames a warm and wet spring that has contributed to an increase in the growth of weeds.

“Typically it stays cool enough during the spring that we don’t get a lot of growth until a little bit later in the year,” he said.
