Crews are mopping up a fire of undetermined cause today that burned an acre and a half on Black Mountain southeast of Phillips Lake.
Keith Dunn, U.S. Forest Service assistant fire management officer, said Thursday that a helicopter with a bucket and two small tanker planes dropped retardant on the fire to knock it down initially.
The fire was reported from Mount Ireland at 1:25 p.m. and moved from a tenth of an acre to a quarter of an acre quickly, Dunn said.
An Oregon Department of Forestry engine responded along with an engine and a tender from the Powder River Rural Fire Protection District and three Forest Service engines.
“I sent the world to it because it was the only one going,” Dunn said.
