The Baker City Little League all-star team is continuing its run through the state playoffs in Salem today with a game against Wilshire at 6 p.m.

The 11-year-olds opened the tournament with a 15-3 win against West Salem Friday.

Baker then lost 6-4 to Lake Oswego on Saturday.

The tournament is a double-elimination format, and with one loss already, the boys have to play perfect now for a chance at the state title.

“I think we match up against everyone really well,” said head coach Kevin Logsdon. “All that’s left now is to go blazing forward.”

Though the first game against West Salem was a near perfect game, easy mistakes cost Baker in a close game against Lake Oswego.

“We ran into a good team and missed on some routine plays,” Logsdon said. “Ground balls, pop flys, stuff that we usually capitalize on, we just missed.”

Paul Hobson was the winning pitcher against West Salem.

Isaiah Jones hit a home run, and every Baker batter had at least one hit in the dominating win.

Going forward, Baker will have to win three games to reach the championship. And because Baker is coming out of the losers’ bracket, it would need to beat one team twice in a row to claim the title. The tournament ends Friday.

“I think the boys have a positive attitude going forward,” said assistant coach Jabron Jones. “Just have to hope they bring their best with them.
