The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest’s controversial proposal to ban motorized vehicles, except snowmobiles, from about 4,200 miles of forest roads starting in 2009 could affect more miles than forest officials estimated this spring.

For the second time in 10 months, Sumpter voters have decided to recall their mayor.
In unofficial results from Tuesday’s election, voters recalled Mayor Leland Myers with 53 voters in favor of the recall and 51 voters opposed.
Myers, a longtime Sumpter resident and former city councilor, was appointed as mayor in September 2015 to replace Melissa Findley.
Findley was recalled in August 2015 by a vote of 48-40.
Voters declined, however, to recall two of Sumpter’s city councilors, Cary Clarke and Samantha Esposito.
The petition to recall Clarke failed by a vote of 58-47, and the petition to recall Esposito failed by a vote of 58-48.
