Members of the Eastern Oregon High School Rodeo Team will advance to the national finals in Wyoming next month after winning top honors at the 2017 Oregon High School Rodeo Association state finals.

Kimberly Williams of North Powder won the championship in the girls cutting event during the state finals June 7-10 at Prineville.

Williams also won Girls Reserve All-Around. Her teammate, Duncan Mackenzie, won the Boys Reserve All-Around award. Michelle Williams, also of North Powder, won the girls rookie award for the year.

Mackenzie, who lost his left eye in a shop accident earlier this year, also was awarded the Ariat “Put Your Best Foot Forward” honor along with Tea Recanzone of Burns, who is recovering from a knee injury. The award is given to rodeo team members who overcome adversity and continue to work hard to succeed, said Beth Mackenzie, Duncan’s mother.

Those placing in the top four in each event at the state finals rodeo advance to national finals competition July 16-22 at Gillette, Wyoming. Others who placed in the top five to 15 are eligible to compete at the Silver State International Rodeo in Winnemucca, Nevada, July 3-8.

The final standings are a compilation of points team members earned in three go-rounds during the state competition.

Mackenzie placed third in team roping as a header along with his heeling partner, Chase Joyce of Juntura.

Mackenzie also will advance to nationals in tie down roping after placing fourth at state.

Gus McGinn of Haines will advance in steer wrestling after taking second place. Matt Siddoway of Durkee placed fifth in the event.

Samantha Kerns of Haines won second place in barrel racing to advance to nationals.

Kimberly Williams placed eighth in barrel racing and Michelle Williams was ninth.

Michelle Williams qualified for nationals with a fourth-place win in pole bending. Kimberly Williams placed seventh in the event with 74 points.

Kerns finished second and Kimberly Williams was third in the breakaway roping event to qualify for nationals.

In goat tying, Kimberly Williams placed third to qualify for nationals. Samantha Kerns placed ninth.

Mackenzie qualified to advance to nationals in boys cutting, placing fourth.

Lexie Harrell of Baker City placed fourth in girls cutting to qualify for nationals. Michelle Williams placed sixth.

Oregon Junior High Division Rodeo

Maggie Mackenzie of Baker City and Kylie Siddoway of Durkee competed in the Oregon Junior High Division Rodeo at Burns last month.

Mackenzie placed third and Kylie Siddoway placed 10th in the girls all-around.

Mackenzie placed in the top four in four events to qualify for the national competition, which will be at Lebanon, Tennessee, June 17-24.

Siddoway did not qualify for the nationals, and Mackenzie opted instead to attend the Silver State International Rodeo at Winnemucca where she and Siddoway can compete in events in which they placed 5-15, Beth Mackenzie said.

Here’s how they placed in their events:

• Ribbon roping: Maggie Mackenzie and her partner, Gator Goodrich of Hermiston, first; Kylie Siddoway and her partner, Cole Hill, eighth.

• Team roping: Mackenzie, fourth; Siddoway, fifth.

• Girls goat tying: Mackenzie, sixth; Siddoway, 11th.

• Girls breakaway: Mackenzie, third; Siddoway, sixth.

• Barrel racing: Mackenzie, third; Siddoway, 12th.

• Pole bending: Mackenzie, 10th; Siddoway, 11th.
