- Bulldogs remain winless in GOL play
Baker’s troubles with pitching, defense and offense continued Saturday in its Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader with Ontario at the Baker Sports Complex.
Baker saw its GOL record drop to 0-4 after losing 4-2 and 17-0 to the Tigers (4-0).
“We’re just not putting ourselves in position to win,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.
“That’s on me and my staff. We have to give ourselves a chance. We all, coaches and players, have to buckle down.”
Errors hurt Baker in the first game.
“We had a couple of crucial errors early, one in each of the first two innings,” Smith said.
That helped Ontario build a 4-0 lead before Baker battled back.
But the Bulldogs managed just five hits.
“We didn’t swing the bats that well,” Smith said.
Baker pitchers issued six walks and hit three Tigers.
“We’re just giving up too many free bases,” Smith said.
Things only got worse in Game 2.
Baker managed just two hits.
Meanwhile, Baker pitchers issued 12 walks and hit two batters.
“Our pitchers are always working from behind in the count,” Smith said.
Baker’s next games are April 20 at home against Mac-Hi (0-4 in the GOL).
