- Bulldogs lose twinbill to La Grande
Shaky pitching and defense cost Baker big time in its Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader against La Grande Monday at the Baker Sports Complex.
La Grande rolled past the Bulldogs 14-8 and 13-3 in the twinbill that started league play for the Bulldogs.
“Our pitching has to be more consistent,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.
“And, we have to play better defense.”
In the first game Baker pitchers walked five and hit five Tigers while allowing 15 hits.
The Bulldogs fell behind 14-2 before scoring six runs in the sixth inning.
Ryan Schwin led Baker’s offense with two hits and two RBIs. Luke Ham added two RBIs.
TJ Dunn, the first of four Baker hurlers, took the loss.
The second game started even worse for the Bulldogs.
La Grande tallied eight first-inning runs to put the game away.
Smith said Baker starter Morgan Bennett didn’t get out of the first inning, walking two and hitting three batters. Bennett took the loss.
Offensively, Sam McCauley, Bennett, Dawson Linscott and Seth Dixon each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Baker (0-2 in the GOL) hosts Ontario (2-0 in the GOL) in another doubleheader Saturday at noon.
