Friday proved to be a perfect day for a huge high school track and field meet at Baker High School.

Temperatures in the mid-70s, a slight breeze, and plenty of talent highlighted the day at BHS.

A total of 29 schools competed in the Baker Invitational meet that was run much like a college meet with multiple heats in the running events and multiple flights in the field competition.

La Grande won the boys team title, and Nyssa the girls crown.

Baker placed ninth in the boys standings, and 19th in the girls.

Powder Valley was 15th in the boys race, and 21st in the girls.

Pine-Eagle finished 23rd in the boys race.

Jackson Cutler had the best Baker finish, placing fourth in the boys javelin with a toss of 142 feet, 2 inches.

Sydney Younger had the top Baker girls finish, fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7.75 inches.

Powder Valley’s Dawson Smith won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.82.

Smith also was fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 10 inches.

The Baker oval will continue to be busy this weekend.

Friday, the smaller schools will compete in the District 4-1A district meet, starting at 10 a.m.

Saturday, Baker will host the Greater Oregon League district meet, also beginning at 10 a.m.
