Baker built a 10-stroke lead Monday, then added to it Tuesday on the way to winning the Greater Oregon League boys district golf championship at Quail Ridge Golf Course.
Baker finished the two-day tourney with a team score of 666, 14 strokes better than Mac-Hi.
“This was our fourth district title in five years,” said Baker coach Mike Long. “And it was our third in a row.”
Baker shot a score of 324 Monday to lead Mac-Hi by 10 strokes.
“The score of 324 may be the lowest single-day score we’ve ever shot with me as coach,” Long said.
Baker’s Caden Long, who finished with medalist honors with a two-day total of 160, led the way Monday with a round of 78, including a 37 on the back nine.
He almost equalled that feat on the front nine Tuesday, shooting a 38.
“Caden had a great front nine today,” Long said.
But the Baker effort definitely wasn’t a one-man show.
Drew Story, (38), Cayn Osborn (42) and Gage Hiatt (42) each played strong golf on the back nine.
“Drew, Gage and Cayn all shot well on the back nine,” Long said.
“For some of those guys to have the mental strength to battle the pressure was just great.”
Caden Long won medalist honors by two strokes. Story finished fourth, and Osborn tied for fifth.
Baker now advances to the Class 4A state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
