Baker had its complete game going against Stayton Saturday in a Class 4A football play-in game at Stayton.

The Bulldogs (7-2) scored in every quarter on the way to a 49-14 victory.

The win moves Baker into the Class 4A first round Saturday at 2 p.m. at South Umpqua (5-3).

“It was a great day to be a Bulldog once again,” said Baker coach Dave Johnson.

“The kids played great.

“We had a really solid kicking game, and once again the defense was great. And, our offense played well too.

“Any win is good, and any win on the road is especially good,” Johnson said.

“Now we have to go do it again.”

Against Stayton, Baker got on the scoreboard first when Brad Zemmer hit Ryan Schwin on a 29-yard touchdown pass. Zemmer’s kick gave Baker a 7-0 lead.

Stayton answered later in the quarter leaving Baker with a 7-6 advantage entering the second period.

The Bulldogs then broke the game open with three touchdowns in the second quarter.

Zemmer scored on a pair of short runs, and Jace Hays added a third score to give Baker a 28-6 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Zemmer found Cody DeCarli on a 29-yard scoring toss, and Marcus Plumley added a TD run to boost Baker up 42-14.

Plumley completed the scoring in the fourth quarter on another short run.

Johnson said South Umpqua is a lot like the Bulldogs.

“They’re the real deal, and we think we’re the real deal too. So, we’ll see,” Johnson said.
