- Bulldogs are looking to build
Baker’s second-place Greater Oregon League girls basketball team graduated just four players last season.
But when practices began this season four more players chose not to return.
That means second-year Coach Mat Sand’s roster will consist of just two seniors, three juniors, a sophomore and three freshmen.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this group,” Sand said. “We not only have a solid group this season, but also have something to build on.”
Among the returning players are senior first-team all-GOL pick Gracie Huggins and second-team sophomore selection Jayme Ramos.
Senior Cecylee Bruce, and juniors Emily Carter, Desi Davis and Calli Ward also saw varsity time a year ago.
Joining that group are freshmen Avri Elms, Isabella Nemec and Sydney Younger.
“We’ll have a solid varsity team,” Sand said. “The basketball talent and basketball IQ we have is as good as it has been in recent years.”
Sand said the Bulldogs will continue to look to run a fast-paced offense.
“We’re a really fast team. We just need to learn to keep the floor spread,” Sand said.
Baker opens its season Nov. 30 when the Bulldogs host Pendleton.
