What a difference a week made.
In Baker’s season-opening volleyball match at Homedale just before Labor Day, the Bulldogs needed five games to defeat the Idaho team.
Thursday night in the Baker gym the Bulldogs completed the task in three games 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.
All three games were close, however, from start to finish.
In the opener, the teams played through five ties before Baker (5-1) took a 15-9 lead behind the serving of Jayme Ramos.
Kaylee Burk had two scoring kills, and Kourtney Lehman a scoring hit during the streak.
Baker maintained its lead the rest of the game before Lehman’s hit was mishandled by the Trojans for the Baker win.
Game 2 was more of the same.
Baker trailed 9-8 before Ramos served the Bulldogs to a 13-9 lead.
Burk again had two scoring kills, and Lehman a scoring hit in the rally.
Again Baker slowly added to its lead until Homedale hit the ball out of bounds for game point.
Baker controlled the third game except for a brief Homedale rally.
Leading 4-3 the Bulldogs used the serving of Abby Baker, Desi Davis and Christina Maldonado to build an 11-6 cushion.
Later, with Baker leading 17-13, Homedale mounted a rally that gave the Trojans a brief 18-17 edge.
However, Baker quickly regained the lead, and took the match when a Homedale player appeared to make a scoring hit only to be called for being in the net on match point.
Baker also swept the non-varsity matches Thursday, winning the JV match 25-21, 25-22 and the JV2 match 25-16, 25-17.
The Baker varsity travels to Burns Saturday for a tournament.
The Baker junior varsity travels to Weiser for a tournament, also on Saturday.
