Before the volleyball season began, Baker coach Warren Wilson said a team strength for the Bulldogs would be hitting.

The Bulldogs showed the home fans what Wilson was talking about Saturday in a 25-18, 25-23, 25-9 nonleague thumping of New Plymouth, Idaho, in the BHS gym.

Baker dominated the net all afternoon.

“Everybody who plays at the net should be able to hit hard,” Wilson said.

Kaylee Burk led Baker with 10 kills. Kaeli Flanagan added nine and Kourtney Lehman six.

Wilson said the Bulldogs also had worked during the week at digging the ball out of the net. That too showed Saturday.

“We’ve been practicing digging the ball out of the net. Who knew we’d use it so quickly,” Wilson said.

Lehman, Jordan Rudolph, Abby Baker and Carson Lien all were 100 percent digging.

And, the Bulldogs passed the ball around. Jayme Ramos had 11 assists and five ace serves, Christina Maldonado 13 assists, Bekka Hughes two assists, Lien two assists and Baker seven ace serves.

Rudolph and Desi Davis each served 100 percent.

With the score tied 1-1 in Game 1, Baker came off the bench to serve four straight points. The Bulldogs never trailed again.

Baker trailed early in the second game. The Bulldogs eventually pulled ahead 19-18.

Then, behind the serving of Rudolph and Burk, Baker forged a 24-23 edge. Baker’s winning point came when New Plymouth served the ball into the net.

Baker then dominated Game 3.

Leading 3-1 Abby Baker served eight straight points, riding the net play of Flanagan, Lehman, Burk and Lien.

Baker (2-0) hosts Fruitland Tuesday.
