Samantha Kerns of the Eastern Oregon Rodeo Team won the 2016 all-around cowgirl title for the Oregon High School Rodeo Association at the state finals June 9-11 in Prineville.

Her teammate, Duncan Mackenzie, split first place in the boys cutting competition.

Both Mackenzie and Kerns won saddles and belt buckles, and both qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals July 17-23 in Gillette, Wyoming.

They will be joined in that event by teammate Kim Williams, who finished second in girls cutting and third in barrel racing.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the National High School Rodeo finals.

Several of their teammates finished in the top 15 in Oregon standings to qualify for the Silver State International Rodeo June 27-July 3 in Winnemucca, Nevada.

Two other local riders — Michelle Williams of North Powder and Maggie Mackenzie — qualified for the Junior High National Finals, taking place this week in Lebanon, Tennessee.
