Baker athletes compete in Eugene

The Baker boys finished 21st at the Class 4A state track and field meet Saturday at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

The Baker girls did not score at the state meet.

On the boys side, Kalani Heiser placed fifth in the shot, and Porter Cline fifth in the pole vault.

Heiser tossed the shot 49 feet, 6 inches.

Cline, who on May 6 broke the 44-year-old school record in the pole vault, cleared 13 feet, 6.25 inches in Eugene.

His school record vault was 14 feet, 6 inches.

Teancum Taylor placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 7 inches. Taylor also had a no height in the pole vault.

Baker’s 4×100 relay of Trace Thamert, Sam Hamilton, Chris Conant and Cline also placed eighth in a time of 44.55.

Logan Sand finished 12th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.

Darian Villalobos was 13th in the javelin with a toss of 147 feet, 11 inches.

Trevor Ball was 14th in the shot with a throw of 42 feet, 6.5 inches.

Cline was 15th in the long jump with a leap of 10 feet, 11.5 inches.

Cline also finished 12th, and Conant 14th in the 100 preliminaries. Cline’s time was 11.63, Conant’s 11.77.

Conant placed 12th in the 200 prelims with a time of 23.55.

Summer Phillips was Baker’s top finisher in the girls half of the meet, placing ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 4.5 inches.

Phillips also joined Kaeli Flanagan, Amy Wong and Rory Scilacci to place 14th in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:22.36.

Flanagan did not make the opening height in the high jump.
