David MidKiff
Baker City, 1942-2016
David E. MidKiff, 73, of Baker City, died April 24, 2016, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City.
There will be a celebration of his life at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Baker City Veterans of Foreign Wars Club at 2005 Valley Ave.
David was born on Nov. 27, 1942, at Klamath Falls to Elmer Antony MidKiff and Mary Nell Istitt MidKiff. Throughout his childhood, he relocated to Umatilla and Hermiston following his dad as he worked in construction and building the McNary Dam.
As a teenager, David worked at the Baker Livestock Yard and in several grocery stores as a box boy. In 1962, David enlisted into the United States Army and completed his GED in 1966 while serving his country as a staff sergeant.
During his time in the Army, David and his first wife, Charlotte McKenzie of Irrigon, had a daughter, Ginger, who was born in Oregon and a son, Cameron, who was born while David was stationed in Germany.
David was married to his second wife, Cordelia (Mahon) Spain of Sonoma, California, for a short period of time.
On May 9, 1971, he married Janet Bredehoft at her mother’s house in Boyes Hot Springs, California, and all of the family was able to attend. Janet and David were together for a total of 46 years before his passing.
During his lifetime, David owned many businesses and held many jobs. In 1972 he purchased a small ranch at Klamath Falls and worked for Weyerhaeuser until he was injured and needed surgery in 1975.
David then moved to Baker City and purchased the Green Gables motel until he sold it in 1981.
While working as a part-time ranch laborer, David learned how to paint professionally from Lee Cotton and in 1986 he started his own painting business, Dave Co. Painting.
David also worked as a custodian at the Senior Center for three years during this time. In 1997, David purchased Baker RV and operated the business until 2001 when he became semi-retired. After retiring, while he was still able, David and George Swanson took many enjoyable horse camping trips at Minam.
David enjoyed many hobbies, which included The Mounted Posse youth trail rides, breaking horses, R.C. 10 racing, dirt car racing, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the Mounted Posse from 1999 to 2016 and enjoyed his affiliation with the Posse tremendously.
David was also a volunteer for the Cub Scouts at Haines and a member of the Baker Black Powder Club where he was given the nickname “Shakey Dave.”
Survivors include his wife, Janet MidKiff of Baker City; his son, Dan, and daughter in-law, Michelle MidKiff, of Hermiston; son, Cameron MidKiff of California; daughter, Ginger MidKiff of California; grandson, David C. MidKiff of Pendleton; and several cousins in Oregon as well as many friends and great neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bunny Jo Stilwell; and his son, David Leland MidKiff.

Clara Hanley
Formerly of Baker City, 1934-2016
Clara Catherine Hanley, 82, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande and Baker City, died May 6, 2016.
A graveside memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, May 13, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.
Clara was born on Feb. 9, 1934, at Pasadena, California, to Harry Earling Hermann and Ruby Lenora Barcus.
She was married to John Lester Hanley on Dec. 9, 1951, at Baker City. Their marriage was solemnized in 1980 at the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
Clara was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a proselyting mission in San Diego and a Family History Mission in Iowa with her husband in the 1990s.
She served a third mission in Dallas, Texas, shortly after her spouse died in 2001. She served her church and community throughout her life.
Her most cherished pastimes were camping, reading and her family.
Survivors include her six children: Alan Hanley and his wife, Shauna, of Halfway, Lenora Steensen of Bend, Alec Hanley and his wife, Becky, of Ammon, Idaho, Jon Hanley and his wife, Angela, of Rexburg, Idaho, Angela Steed and her husband, Kip, of Idaho Falls, and Chauncy Hanley of Idaho Falls; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hanley.

Jadene Profitt
Baker City, 1956-2016
Jadene “Skeeter” Profitt, 59, of Baker City, died April 12, 2016, at Boise.
There will be a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H St.
Jadene was born on May 16, 1956, at Portland (due to her birth being premature) to Mildred and Buford Kennison. She was raised at Pendleton, and in later years moved to Montana where she attended high school.
On Aug. 2, 1971, Skeeter married Loren Profitt, whom she had met while still in school. Together they had two sons.
Skeeter moved back to Baker in 1972 and had lived here since. Skeeter worked in construction until a neck injury prevented her from continuing in that field.
She later worked as a dietary aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Baker City, until her injury required surgery.
As a child, Skeeter enjoyed riding horses on the family ranch. She loved summer and camping with her own family but always said that her favorite time in her life was when she became a grandmother.
Skeeter will be remembered for always making people smile. She had an infectious laugh, always had an ear to listen and a huge heart.
She was preceded in death by parents, Grace and John Profitt and Buford and Mildred Kennison; and a sister, Alberta Lee Dixon.
Survivors include her sons, Chad Laverne Profitt of Salem and Nick Profitt of Baker City; grandchildren, Logan Owen Profitt of North Powder and Hunter Gage Profitt of Baker City; brothers, Stan, and his wife, Denise Kennison, of North Carolina, and Steve Scott Kennison of Richland.

Marsha Hollriegel
Sumpter, 1944-2016
Marsha Sue Hollriegel, 71, of Sumpter, died April 30, 2016, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City.
No service is planned at this time.
Marsha was born on May 5, 1944, to Vernon D. and Juanita Lockwood Richards at McMinnville. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 18 years until her retirement in 2006. On Nov. 13, 2001, she married Richard T. Hollriegel in Portland.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Sumpter; a daughter, Tami J. Richards of Fairview; a grandson, Joel R. Teixeira of Baker City; and a granddaughter, Tianna E. Teixeira of Fairview.
