An Illinois real estate company is trying to sell Baker County’s richest historic gold mine.
Hilco Real Estate is advertising the Cornucopia Mine property about 12 miles north of Halfway.
The property includes 1,000 acres of private patented mining claims, and about 2,910 acres of unpatented mining claims, according to a brochure from Hilco Real Estate.
The Cornucopia properties are owned by United Nuclear Corporation Cornucopia Mining Co. of Scottsdale, Ariz., according to Baker County Assessor’s Office records.
The brochure does not list a price.
Gold was discovered in the area in 1884, and Cornucopia mines produced more than 300,000 ounces of gold and more than 1 million ounces of silver.
