Children will be greeted by a new, friendly Easter Bunny this Saturday morning at the Community Easter Egg Hunt.

The bunny costume was purchased by the Baker High School leadership class, which raised the money by sponsoring a Sadie Hawkins dance in January.

The class revived the dance in 2014 to raise money for school and community projects.

Each year, students from the BHS leadership class and National Honor Society volunteer to help with the community Easter Egg Hunt, which is organized by the Baker City Herald.

“The kids were talking about how much work Lynette Perry (the Herald’s advertising director) puts into that,” said Suzy Cole, who teaches the leadership class.

Plus, the high schoolers didn’t think the old costume looked very friendly.

They researched Halloween costumes online and found a bunny outfit in a section for Easter.

“I think he’s very cute and has nice blue eyes,” Cole said.

It cost around $400, she said.

The bunny will greet youngsters at the Easter Egg Hunt, which starts promptly at 10 a.m. at Geiser-Pollman Park.

Kids are encouraged to line up at 9:45 a.m. The park will be sectioned off with areas for different age groups.
