Ramona Idler

Ramona A. Idler, 78, of Baker City died Nov. 11, 2011 at her home.

Her graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Julian Cassar will officiate. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception at St. Francis de Sales Parish Hall, First and Church streets, after the service.

Ramona was born on Nov. 6, 1933, at Ballaugh, Neb., to John and Anna

Willemsen Frericks. Her family moved to Baker City in 1937. She was a

1946 St. Francis Academy graduate.

Then she moved to Southern California where she became a medical

transcriber. She returned to her home in Baker City, to retire after

the death of her husband, Lester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; her

brothers, Leo, Joe, and Ted; her sister, Elizabeth Frericks; and three

sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Survivors include her two daughters, Michelle Miller of Rialto, Calif.,

and Renee Dorks of Reno, Nev.; son-in-law, Chuck Miller; two grandsons,

Kyle and Blake Dorks; and two sisters, Connie Frericks Fisher of Echo

and Louise Frericks Todd of Baker City.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Altar Society or the

American Lung Association in Oregon through Coles Tribute Center, 1950

Velma Dickison

Velma Nadeen Barton Dickison, 85, a Baker City resident, died Oct. 14, 2011.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Baker City Christian Church, 675 Highway 7. Pastor Jesse Whitford will officiate.

Interment will be at Sumpter Cemetery. After the committal service at

the cemetery, everyone is invited to a luncheon at the Masonic Hall in

Sumpter.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St.

Nadeen was born on Jan. 22, 1926, at Bernice, Okla. She grew up and graduated from high school at Memphis, Texas, in 1943.

After high school, she graduated from business school and worked at the

Army Air Force Base in Amarillo, Texas. She moved to Pittsburg, Calif.,

to work at Camp Stoneman and to meet her brother’s Navy shipmate,

Wilson Dickison, who had been writing to her for a few months. They

were married in Martinez, Calif., in April 1946.

After her sons were grown, Nadeen was the office manager for the

Mitchell and Guyer accounting firm at Baker City. She was the office

manager of Transcon until the Baker City terminal closed.

She then worked for USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS)

in many administrative positions, retiring in 2004 at the age of 78.

While working for NRCS, she attended Eastern Oregon University, and

graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1995 at age 69.

She was an active member and past matron of Alpine Chapter No. 82,

Order of Eastern Star in Sumpter and served in offices of the Grand

Chapter in Oregon.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and Association of American University Women (AAUW).

She was a longtime member of the Baker City Christian Church were she

sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She also enjoyed singing in

the Community

Choir, and in 1998 went on a European tour with the Eastern Oregon University Community Choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson; her parents, Henry

and Laura Barton; two sisters, Lorene and Beatrice; and two brothers,

Harvey and Otus.

Survivors include her sons, Jon Dickison of Baker City and Bart

Dickison and his wife, Ann, of La Grande; five grandchildren and five

great-grandchildren; her brother, William Barton of Paonia, Colo., and

her sister, Dovey Dake, of Pittsburg, Calif.
