Daniel Hayse

Daniel Lee Hayse, 68, died May 29, 2011, at his home in Baker City.

Please join his family for food and fellowship at a celebration of his life party on Saturday, June 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 1040 G St. in Baker City. Friends and family can come and go during this time as they please. Please bring written stories, memories and any photos that you may have so that we may include all in his memory book.

Dan was born Feb. 12, 1943, at Baker City to Leigh and Alta Porter

Hayse. When he was about a year and a half, he went to live with his

Aunt Marie and “Cap” Elvin Craig. He grew up in Washington state and

went out on his own at the age of 14. He picked apples for a while and

stayed part of the time with his mother. In 1963 he moved to Richland,

Ore., and herded sheep and did various odd jobs. Many times he walked

out to Baker and back. On June 7, 1980, he married Debbie Lynn

Hambleton. They were married almost 31 years.

Dan loved herding sheep and worked a number of years for Boyd Brown,

helping him with his sheep. He always was helping those he loved with

their yard work and mowing lawns. He loved to go fishing, especially on

Eagle Creek, and he loved to go bowling.He was very close to Debbie’s

parents and Debbie’s sister.He loved family get-togethers, holidays

and birthdays.His idol movie star was John Wayne. He was very proud of

his movie collection. He had nearly every movie starring John Wayne.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of Baker City; his son, Joseph, and

his wife, Reyna, of Corvallis; his sister, Reta Schappert and her

husband, William, of Ontario, and half-sisters, Ida Mae Foiles of

Payette, Idaho, and Elsie Hoffman of Ontario; several nieces and

nephews, including a nephew, William Schappert of Pendleton and niece,

Susan Schappert of Ontario.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two half-sisters, Doris and Christine.

Millie Mann-Hickerson

Millie Mann-Hickerson, 94, a former Haines and Baker City resident,

died May 21, 2011, at her home in Yamhill, Ore., surrounded by family.

Her funeral will be Friday, June 3 at 2 p.m. at Coles Tribute Center,

1950 Place St. in Baker City. Interment will follow at Mount Hope

Cemetery. Visitations will be Thursday, June 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

at Coles Tribute Center.

Millie was born Dec. 2, 1916, at Haines to J.O. (Jim) Hall and Mabel

York Hall. At the age of 12, she and her family moved to Baker City,

where she lived until 2002, when ill health forced her to move to

Yamhill to live with her daughter’s family.

On June 28, 1932, at the age of 15, Millie married Francis E. Mann in

La Grande. They lived on a ranch outside of Baker City where Francis

worked. They later moved to Baker City where they purchased their first

home for $5 down and $5 a month. Francis became a licensed plumber and

Millie was his accountant and bookkeeper until he retired. After

Francis retired, Millie got the job of pastry cook at South Baker Grade

School. She left her job to take care of Francis in his last years.

After 51 years of marriage, Francis died on Nov. 22, 1983.

Millie then worked as a cook at Elkhorn Village for several years. She

retired to have more time for herself and family. On June 19, 1991, she

married Wallace Hickerson. He died on April 17, 2001.

Millie is survived by her son, Grover Mann and his wife, Mary, of

Lincoln City; her daughter, Donna Lanyon and her husband, Ken, of

Yamhill; her son-in-law, Albert Seibel of Hermiston; her grandchildren:

Pam, of Cove, Sandra Perkins of Pendleton, Don McDowell and his wife,

Nancy, of Cheney, Wash., Mark McDowell and his wife, Monica, of Baker

City, Donna Donovan and her husband, James, of Beaverton, Denise

Johnson and her husband, Kelly, of Loveland, Colo., Kay Lanyon and Kim

Lanyon of Yamhill, and Shelley Fawcett and her husband, Mike, of Lake

Tapps, Wash.; 27 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren;

her twin sisters, Irene Martin of Caldwell, Idaho, and Lorene Spriet of

La Grande; her sister-in-law, Violet Hall of Hermiston; and numerous

nephews and nieces.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; two

infant daughters; her daughter, Leatha Seibel of Hermiston; two

great-grandsons, Danny Mann and Joe Mann; her brothers, Glen and Donald

Hall of Baker City, and Edward Hall of Hermiston; her sisters, Ada

Haney and Dorothy Henner of Baker City; and her husband, Wallace

Hickerson of Baker City.

Oneta Olp

Oneta Louise Olp, 86, of La Grande, and a former Baker City resident, died May 26, 2011, at home with her family by her side.

Her funeral will be Saturday, June 4 at 2 p.m., at the Church of Christ

in La Grande. Interment will be at the Hillcrest East Cemetery. A

viewing for family and friends will be Friday, June 3 at Loveland

Funeral Chapel, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Louise was born Aug. 8, 1924, at Wyola, Ark., to William Sherman and

Mary Francis (Kenion) Paschal. She moved to Baker at the age of 18. On

Sept. 24, 1950, she married Walter R. Olp. Louise was employed as a

nurse’s aide in her younger years, but spent the rest of her life

caring for her husband and family.

Her favorite activities were raising her family, sewing, crocheting,

embroidery, going to yard sales, and fishing. She was a member of the

Church of Christ.

Louise is survived by her husband, Walter; her children and their

spouses, Elaine Olp of La Grande, Donna and Michael Shields of La

Grande, Carolyn and Lindsey Pierce of Summerville, Theresa and Scott

Arnson of La Grande, and Lisa Keiser of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister and

her spouse, Jimmi and Laurence Watkins of Sparks, Okla.; 12

grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and six sisters.
