LA GRANDE – Baker couldn’t defeat Union Count twice in three days at

the District 3 Babe Ruth 13-year-old baseball tournament in La Grande.

Baker rallied from eight runs down Friday to win 17-10. But Sunday,

in a game to earn the right to play Snake River Valley for the title,

Baker came up short, 10-5.

Friday, Baker trailed 8-0 after two innings.

Baker then scored six runs in the third, four in the fourth, six in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away.

Chase Dixon led the way with four hits and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Jake Harris added three hits and an RBI, Kyle Srack two hits and two RBIs, Austin Folkman two hits, Stephen Schott three hits and two RBIs, Taylor Gulick two hits and an RBI, and Keaton Bachman a double and an RBI.

Baker managed eight hits, including two each by Srack and Schott, but couldn’t get runs home.

Logan Scott took the loss on the mound.

The loss left Baker, Union County and SRV all tied at 1-1. Using a tie-breaking system it was determined SRV was No. 1, Baker second and Union County third. Baker and Union County had to play again to determine who would meet SRV for the title.

Union County led just 6-5 entering the top of the sixth, but added four runs to pull away.

Gulick suffered the loss in relief of Harris.

Dixon led Baker’s offense with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
