Chris Crum

Chris Alan Crum, 52, died June 21, 2010, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.

His funeral will be at noon PDT Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 824 Caswell Ave. W. Twin Falls,

Idaho. Interment will be at 1 p.m. PDT Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery in

Baker City.

Visitations were Thursday and will continue from 11 a.m. to noon at the church.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1957, at Baker City to Leslie and Elaine Crum.

Chris received all of his schooling at Baker City and attended Rick’s College at Rexburg, Idaho, for 1? years. After college, he moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, and worked in a bicycle shop. This is where he met Cindy Shuttel. They were married on Aug. 18, 1980.

For several years they participated in bicycle racing. They had two daughters, Chandra and Catina. When the marriage ended, Chris stayed at Twin Falls to be close to his daughters.

Through the years Chris worked as a carpenter, having his own business, “The Little Ole Sawmill.” A lot of his work was in the Sun Valley and Stanley area of Idaho where he did remodeling and finish work.

He earned a high reputation for doing a phenomenal job, his family members said. He also had a vast computer knowledge and unselfishly used that expertise to help family and friends with their computer problems.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing with his daughters, and being with family when he could. For many years Chris played tennis on a city league and enjoyed that so much.

Survivors include his two daughters, Chandra and Catina; his mother, Elaine Collard, and her husband, Ernie, of Baker City; his father, Leslie Crum, and his wife, Fugi, of Sun City, Ariz.; brother, Tracy Crum, and his wife, Cris, and family of Baker City; sisters, Marcy Horning, and her husband, Kelly, and family of Peoria, Ariz., and Susan Crum of Glendale, Ariz.; step-brothers, Scott Collard and family of Lexington, S.C.; Bryan Collard and his wife, Mary, and family of Baker City; and a stepsister, Kristy Miner, and her husband, Rod, and family of Baker City; and by many friends in the Twin Falls and Baker City areas.

The Twin Falls service was under the direction of the Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.

Lois Emerson

Lois Irene Emerson, 57, of Baker City, died June 20, 2010, at her home.

There will be no service.

Lois was born on Feb. 25, 1952, at Portland to Elmer and Lillian Boins Schuff. She married Don Emerson and they had two children, Jena Harman and Ty Emerson.

Survivors include her husband, Don; and their children, Jena and Ty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lillian.

Carlene Collins

Carlene Rae Collins, 72, a former Baker City resident, died June 10, 2010, at Grandview care center in Junction City with family at her bedside.

There will be a small gathering near Junction City where her ashes will be scattered in the forest among the big trees she loved so much.

Carlene was born on Nov. 2, 1937, at Rockford, Ill., to Carl and Eva Hamilton Wret. She was the oldest of three children.

Her father served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, and remained with the Air Force until his retirement. The family moved to different cities, from Roswell, N.M., to Sacramento, Calif., and Riverside, Calif., following her father’s military career.

At Riverside, Carlene met and married her high school sweetheart, Donald Collins. The couple were married for seven years when Donald was killed in a car accident.

To support her children, she worked for Rohr Aircraft at Riverside. In 1964, she married Richard Sublett. After nine years they were divorced.

Carlene then worked as office manager for The Sportsman at Reno, Nev. She next moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for a space agency.

Missing family and the West, she moved to Enterprise to work at the Ford car dealership. She then applied for and was hired as executive director for the Baker County Community Development Corp. in April 1992.

She also served as executive director of the Oregon Trail Preservation Trust and as board president of the Baker County Family YMCA. She was honored for her work on the interpretive center, including the grand opening and reception.

She accomplished much in her years with the CDC, not the least of which was the many lifelong friends she made, a trait she had wherever she went, her family said.

In semi-retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper for Sackos Excavating before deciding to move near her daughter at Junction City in 2006.

“She knew how to love, and was loved dearly by so many,” family members said. “She is deeply missed, but never forgotten.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Collins; her son, Dennis; and her brother, Roger.

Survivors include her daughter, Lori Noble of Junction City; a son, Larry Collins of Reno, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jim Fox of Sanford, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Janis and George Anderson of Baker City; sister-in-law, Lois Wret of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; extended family members; and the many dear friends she made through the years.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.

Lawrence Johnson Sr.

Lawrence Johnson Sr., 88, of Baker City, died June 23, 2010, at his home.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pastor Lennie Spooner of the Nazarene Church will officiate. There will be a reception afterward at the church fellowship hall.

He was born on May 12, 1922, at Hebron in Douglas County Missouri to Clearcy Johnson and John Wesley Johnson.

Lawrence graduated high school in 1940. He married Lula Lovan on Feb. 21, 1946, at West Plains, Mo. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three years being discharged as a corporal.

Lawrence then became a watchmaker and taught watchmakers school at Charlston, Miss. He later owned and operated Johnson’s Jewelry in Baker City from 1964 until he retired in December of 1982.

His hobbies consisted of fishing and hunting with his favorite partner, his wife. He also enjoyed refinishing gunstocks; coaching Little League; and spending time with his family.

Lawrence was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Johnson of Baker City; a son, Lawrence Johnson Jr., and his wife, Kim, of Lynden, Wash.; three daughters, Bonnie Olson, and her husband, Victor, of Clackamas, Diana Grandeen and her husband, Everett, of Elgin, and Patty Born and her husband, Grant, of Cove; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clearcy Johnson; his brother, Ray Johnson; and his two half-sisters, Hazel Freeman and Veda Casey.
