If you want to know the ending of “The Mousetrap,” you have to see the show – and then promise not to tell anyone how it ends.
“At the end of every show, everyone is asked not to reveal the
‘whodunit,’ ” said Annie Fale, Baker High School drama teacher who is
directing the spring play.
“The Mousetrap” started as a 30-minute play called “Three Blind
Mice” that Agatha Christie wrote for Queen Mary’s 80th birthday in
1947. It was made a full-length show in November 1952 and has played
continuously at the West End of London ever since.
And this weekend it can be seen in Baker City. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. All are in the BHS auditorium, 2500 E St.
Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at BHS, or at the door.
“The Mousetrap” is a murder mystery – odd guests trapped by snow at a remote hotel. All seems fine until Detective Sgt. Trotter arrives on skis to say that a murderer may be on the way.
“Unless they’re here already,” he says.
This comes on the heels of an odd statement by Mr. Paravicini, who asks hotel owner Mollie Ralston if she got references for her guests.
“Is that usual? I thought people just came,” she says.
His answer: “I could be a thief, a robber, a fugitive from justice, a madman, even … a murderer.”
The cast includes: Katie Horn, Donovan Spikerman, Jessica Jewell, Ethan Snyder, Michael Chung, Tyler Hughes, Jacob Gilmer and Makayla Emery. Chelse Bulthuis is assistant director.
