90th birthday
Lifetime Baker County resident Millicent Lavone “Millie” George will celebrate her 90th birthday on Jan. 25.
Millie was born and raised in the Keating Valley with her two brothers and parents. She attended the Keating School until her high school years when she transferred to Baker City and graduated in 1937.
Millie married her high school sweetheart, Roland George, that same year. Roland and Millie were married for more than 70 years at the time of his death in 2007.
The two spent most of their years running dairies and in their later years a cow-calf operation in the Wingville area. In addition to being an active partner in the dairy and ranching business, Millie also worked for many years at Powers Shoe Store and Neuberger and Heilner department store. Millie had a loyal following of customers who would let only her assist them with their purchases.
Millie was also involved in the county’s 4-H program for more than 40 years.
Millie and Roland had two daughters, Annette Craner of Newberg and Linda Jones of Hermiston.
Millie lives at Meadowbrook Assisted Living where she would welcome visits or phone calls from her friends.
