Offense doesn’t appear to be a problem for the Team Rudi Diamondbacks, Baker’s American Legion baseball team. The Diamondbacks hammered 29 hits, including 13 for extra bases, Saturday while sweeping the Walla Walla Cubs 13-8 and 14-4 at the Baker Sports Complex.
Baker ripped 15 hits, including home runs by Jordan Harlow and Brandon Dolby, in the first game. Cole Brown finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Harlow was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Dolby added four RBIs.
The Diamondbacks added 14 hits, including a Brown homer, in the nightcap. Brown finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Coleman Lay was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Jon Woolard added a double and triple, Ty Everson a pair of doubles, Dolby a double, and Harlow a triple.
In the first game, Baker tallied four first-inning runs. Two scored on a single by Will Barr. Woolard added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk, and Dolby one on a sacrifice fly.
The Diamondbacks added five runs in the second inning. Dolby’s three-run homer to center field was the big blow. Harlow and Woolard each added RBI singles.
Harlow’s two-run homer boosted Baker’s lead to 11-3 in the fourth. Brown added a two-run single in the fifth.
Brown pitched the first four innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out four. Barr threw the final three innings, allowing three hits, walking three and striking out three.
Baker’s hoit bats continued in the first inning of the second game. Lay’s two-run double, and an RBI triple from Harlow gave Baker a 3-0 lead.
Then, after Walla Walla touched up Harlow for four runs in the second, Baker rallied for four more runs in the third.
Woolard led the way with a run-scoring triple. Lay and Everson each added RBI doubles, and Colton Richards an RBI single.
Baker added a fourth-inning run without a hit when Walla Walla pitchers walked four stright batters. Richards got the RBI with a bases-loaded pass.
Brown’s two-run homer and a run-scoring single by Lay added three runs in the fifth.
Brown’s RBI triple, a run-scoring single by Harlow and an RBI double by Woolard ended the game by 10-run rule with two outs in the sixth.
